What is an Investor Visa and how to obtain it?

Updated: Jan 27, 2021

The political uncertainty that often takes place in Latin American countries, the economic instability, or simply the desire to live and work in the United States, are the main reasons why more and more families are looking for alternatives to move to the US and enjoy security, comfort, and all the advantages of living in The United States of America.

If you are ready to invest and want to be part of the strongest and most dynamic economy in the world, the E2 and EB5 investment visas offer a great opportunity for you and your family.

What are the requirements for an Investor Visa?

You can apply for an E2 Investor Visa by buying franchises or investing in a new or existing American company, of which you must own at least 50%. With that said, most people want to know how much money they should invest to acquire the Investor Visa. For the E2 Visa, we recommend investing an amount greater than USD 200,000. It is important to know that your country of origin must have a current treaty with the United States: Venezuela and Brazil, for example, do not currently have one.

What are the advantages of the E2 visa?

The E2 Visa not only allows you to reside legally in the United States, but it also grants permission to stay and work in the country for both your spouse and your children under 21 years of age. Also, the process is relatively fast, under normal conditions, it can take between 90 and 120 days.

Depending on the country of origin of the investor, the E2 Visa can be renewed indefinitely every two or five years as long as your business continues to operate. With that said, it does not give you direct access to a Green Card.

Can I access a Green Card through an Investor Visa?

You can, but in this case, you should apply for an EB-5 Visa and have the resources to invest from the US $ 500,000. Also, you must meet certain requirements such as a minimum number of employees and, as it happens with the E2 Visa, you must have an office at an address that is not the same as your place of residence.
